Are you a Blogger, YouTube or Travel Agent looking for cruise affiliate scheme with generous commissions? Here at Cruising Isn’t Just For Old People we
Hey! I'm Emma.
I'm a Cruise Blogger and
Cruise YouTuber from the UK.
I'm 26 and I've been cruising since I was 11 years old. As a child I loved cruising, I loved the freedom that it gave me and exploring new ships was so much fun. I still don't think there's anything quite like stepping onboard a ship for the first time.
When I decided to take my first cruise by myself, I was surprised to find that none of my friends would even consider it. They had outdated ideas about cruise ships being formal and boring, which I knew was not the case. I started a blog about cruising around 3 years ago and a YouTube channel a year later. The aim of both is to dispel common cruising misconceptions and to show potential cruisers that there is a cruise line to suit everybody.
I’ve been lucky enough to cruise all over the world and I have travelled on cruise ships ranging from 100 passengers all the way up to around 5500. My favourite trip to date was a cruise which I took from Singapore to Tokyo with Princess Cruises. Every port we visited was fascinating and visiting by ship meant we were able to visit multiple countries in a relatively short period of time.
I’m a strong believer in the idea that there is a cruise line, ship and destination, to suit everybody, regardless of age or budget.
Cruising Isn't Just For Old People
If you have had a cruise cancelled taking future cruise credit may seem like the logical choice. There certainly are benefits to taking future cruise
I started this website in 2016 when I came back from my first cruise with Cunard cruise line. I had cruised as a child and throughout my teenage years but the Cunard cruise was very different.
As I sat on the ship I thought ‘Why did nobody tell me these things before the cruise?’ I came home and started this website to share cruise tips, tours, and reviews with people like myself.
On this site, you’ll find loads of first-time cruise tips, ship/cabin tours, daily videos and more! If you’re taking your first cruise or 100th cruise, I guarantee we’ve got something for you here. Our aim is to help cruisers (or cruisers to be) to pick their perfect cruise.
I started a Facebook group when I realised that I had built up a community across my social accounts and website. By bringing everybody together into a Facebook group I was able to provide a space for cruisers, or future cruisers, to ask questions without fear of judgement or looking ‘silly’.
We have over 6000 members at the moment and I still learn things on a daily basis from the group. If you’ve got a question about a cruise line or cruise destination you can guarantee that somebody has an experience they’ll be able to share.
On my channel I share ship reviews, cabin tours, cruise vlogs and cruise booking tips and tricks. If you’re considering taking your first cruise, or are interested in learning more about a certain cruise line or ship, you’re in the right place.
I upload a new video every single week. So please do subscribe!
I use Instagram to document my cruises and day to day life as things happen. I’m by far the most active on this platform so if you would like to get to know me, and learn a little about what it’s like to live in the UK, please do give me a follow here: Instagram, Emma Cruises.
In University I studied Maths which has led me to working in the insurance industry as a Data Developer. My day job couldn’t be further from the world of cruise but it pays the bills, and for the cruises!
A few things that I love, apart from cruising:
- My Cat Hudson – He’s a big ginger boy and he often appears in my YouTube videos.
- Cookies – If there are cookies to be found on a cruise, you can guarantee I’ll be there.
- Yorkshire Puddings – This one doesn’t need an explanation. If you haven’t tried a Yorkshire pudding, you must!
- Tea – On an average work day I’ll usually get through about 8 cups of tea, my favourite is peppermint.
- Pepsi Max – I have to admit, I am totally addicted to Pepsi Max. Coke Zero or Diet Coke will do too, I love all diet cola drinks.
I cruise as much as I can in my annual leave and am very lucky to live in Sussex, UK. This means I’m close to Southampton for those weekend cruises and London for cruise events! The best of both worlds.
My First Cruise
I took my first cruise when I was 11. It was onboard the Norwegian Spirit and we visited Alaska. I loved the freedom that cruising gave me as a child. I had loads of fun in the kids clubs with my brother and cousins. I also loved being able to decide what and where I wanted to eat. My parents might decide to have dinner in the main dining room and I could have pizza from the buffet, it was great!
Below (on the right) I am with my first ever cruise ship.
Emma Le Teace
I’ve been interviewed for national TV as a ‘cruise expert’ (more information coming soon), consulted live on BBC radio and have been featured in a number of large newspapers and on travel websites.
I’m usually asked to speak about the rise in young people cruising and to talk about how the cruise industry is changing and adapting to the demands of consumers. I usually focus on the budget end of the cruise market and aim to encourage others to try their first cruise.
The Guardian Newspaper
I was recently mentioned in The Guardian which was incredibly cool. I've not bought a newspaper for years but I bought this copy and I intend to keep it forever. The online version of the piece can be found here: Why Cruises Float The Boat of The Instagram Generation.
World of Cruising
I've been featured on World of Cruising's website a number of times and have had articles published within the magazine. I was recently contacted to produce a cruising guide for millennials.
The purpose of the article was to dispel some common cruising myths and to encourage others to try a cruise.
The site was also mentioned on the Telegraphs website in an article called ‘The cruise for people who don’t consider themselves cruises’. The article has the most amazing quote:
“So, do you fancy a cruise?” I asked my partner. He pulled a face. “We’re not really ‘cruise-ship people’, are we?” I opened my laptop and the pithily named cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.com website: “But maybe we’re meant to be?”
You can read the full article here: Celebrity Edge: The cruise for people who don’t consider themselves to be ‘cruise ship people’.
During the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 I was asked to comment on when I would return to cruising. It was brilliant to be featured in such a cruise positive article as the news around cruise ships does tend to be pretty negative.
You can read the full article here, it is a ‘premium’ article which means you’ll need to log in to view it: Why your first holiday after this is all over should be a cruise.
I’ve been interviewed multiple times on BBC radio. Sadly it’s usually only where something bad has happened and the industry needs defending! Fear not though, I’m always willing to stick up for the cruise lines.
Here is an extract of the show where I was interviewed about mystery cruises. It was SO much fun being on the radio, if a little scary. Being told ‘okay Emma, you’re on air NOW, is terrifying’.
New York Times
I was recently quotes in an article by the NY Times which talked about the way that technology is changing the cruise industry. I mentioned downloadable apps and talked about how cruise ship tech makes the experience of cruising faster, easier and more fun. Click here to read the full article.
Awards and Achievements
I was voted ‘favourite cruise blogger’ at the Wave Awards in 2018. It was such an honour to be up against cruise bloggers who I had looked up to for years. Click here to read more about it.
Braving The Shave For Macmillan - We Raised Over £5000!
Last year, I let the captain of the Marella Discovery shave my head and I’m so glad I did. We raised £5000+ for a cancer support charity and I was able to donate my hair to be made into wigs for children that need it.
I’ve been posting YouTube videos and sharing photos across social media during the process of my hair growing back so if you notice I sometimes look like a fluffy little kiwi fruit, now you know why!
The story was also mentioned on World of Cruising and Travel Weekly’s websites. I am so grateful for the media attention because we managed to raise £3500 online before the day! That is CRAZY cool.
12 Hour YouTube Live - We Raised Over $27,000!
A good friend of mine was recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. To fundraise for his treatment I held a 12 hour live stream along with my friends Ben and David, we had some incredible guests chatting to us throughout the event and we raised an incredible amount.
Thank you all so much to everybody who donated. You can still donate here if you’d like to, anything is appreciated no matter how small. Go Fund Me, Sean and Stef.
